Morning Fun

You know what is really fun? When your three year old wakes up on Saturday morning (not too early, thankfully) and says his jammies are wet. That isn't so bad, but really, they weren't just went... they were soaked, as were all his sheets, blankets, pillow, etc. From what he says, this is what happened:

"I woke up and needed a lot of water. So I drank and drank and drank my water. Then I got down off my bed to go potty. I took my diaper off and put it in the trash and went back to bed.

Um, yah. Good thinking, Little Man, but your timeline is a little off. See, he knows that if he drinks a lot, he will have to go pee. We tell him that all the time so that we can work on this nighttime potty training thing. Well, since he drank a lot, he figured he would go lots of pee and then he'd be good for the night. Slight problem was that this all occurred before midnight... so a diaperless bottom + lots of water + many hours left of sleep = new bed sheets. I guess there are good things to being an independent young man, and there are some drawbacks... :)

GaMommy Update

We have been loving having GaMommy around this week. Little Man is certain that she came just to play with him any chance she might get. Squeaker thought that she was a fine substitute the other morning when Mommy was able to escape for a few hours undetected. It has been mild weather the past couple days so we have been outside, inside, and running around town and all that with our GaMommy... what could be better??? I must say, too, that it appears that having that much excitement in our house seems to have done Little Man some good... he has been sleeping past 7:00*. That is a feat we have been trying to accomplish for a very long time! Who knows what today has in store, but it is bound to be full of, "GaMommy, let's play" or "GaMommy, do you want to play a game with me?"

Off to WAKE UP my sleeping babes as we have places to go and people to see! Oh, how I hate that I have to do this.

*Usually, LM is awake before 7, but stares at his clock (with the minutes blocked out) until the 6 changes to a 7. At the very moment that happens, we either hear a faint, "It changed to a 7! I am awake!" or the pitter patter of little feet climbing down the ladder of his bunk bed, and he stealthily walks into our room without waking Squeaker.

Musings...oops, uh Tuesday

Oopsy, I forgot that yesterday was Monday. Where was my head? Probably buried in chocolate. Anyway, speaking of food, here is the latest musing:

Me: Little Man, what do you want for breakfast? Cereal or eggs?
LM: Cereal
Me: Here you go.... cereal! (I'm eating eggs.)
LM: I want eggs, too.
Me: Eat your cereal and I will make you an egg.
LM: (scarfs down his food) I'm done, can I have an egg?
Me: Sure. (I make a scrambled egg)
LM: (stares at food blankly)
LM: I don't want an egg.
Me: Well, you asked for it so it'd be nice if you ate it.
LM: But, my eating motor is broken.
Me: What does that mean?
LM: It is pretend. It means I can't eat my food cuz the motor to eat it is broken.
Me: Too bad, find another way.
LM: Okay. (eats eggs)

Training Wheels

Training Wheels from farfromca on Vimeo.

Just put on the training wheels from Christmas... yes we are slacker parents. He loves them. This was his first attempt at biking. Since this video (last weekend - again, slacker parents taking so long to upload and share the video), he has gone one more time and seems to have a knack for it. Pretty soon he'll be jettin' down the sidewalk, parent running behind out of breath! :)

Happy Easter

The Easter bunny knew that mommy was 'modifying her food intake', and planned accordingly. He was SOOOO clever!!! The bunny you see is carved out of a hunk of reduced fat cheese and the chocolates are sugar free. Instead of the cheap plastic easter grass, the basket was filled with lettuce and other assorted veggies. Adorable! The boys had a great time hunting for eggs with one of their friends who came over to help. And, best of all, the Easter Bunny brought GaMommy to visit all the way from CA! Woo Hoo!

HAPPY EASTER - we hope yours was a bit warmer than ours. :)

Everyone knows

We, specifically Little Man, is so excited about Sunday. It is, in part, because the Easter Bunny will have come, but also because GaMommy is coming for a visit!!! We are all excited, but the word is spreading, and soon, all of the DC metro area will be as excited. Here is a short list of those who know GaMommy is coming:

* The child care workers at the gym
* The checker at Giant Foods
* The pediatrician **
* The checkout lady at the pediatrician's office
* Any friend of LM's that we may have spoken with in the past week
* Mommy... again, and again, and again, and again
I am sure there are more, and we'll be able to add even more after today. I am not sure which is more exciting, Easter candy or GaMommy... Actually, it is GaMommy... We are all excited, have a great flight and we'll see you in the morning!

** Yes, we were there again yesterday. Maybe Daddy should start writing over his paycheck there once a month? Anyway, all is well, Squeaker went for a follow up and his ears, although not back to 'normal', are better. We have a couple days left on antibiotics so we'll see what happens in the next week. We have our tube surgery on the 8th of April... that means 17 days. We can make it, I KNOW we can!!!

Crafty Cars

I took Little Man to the fabric store about a couple months ago and we found some cheap race car fabric. I bought a yard, not knowing what in the world to do with it, but it sure made his day. After a few thoughtful days, I decided to feed into his new obsession. LM loves to transfer his cars from one container to another to another. It really doesn't matter what container it is (dump truck, empty cous cous tub, bucket, ziploc bag, box, etc) I figured he'd love the idea. And, after weeks of waiting (don't worry, he never gave up on me -- inscessant asking) here is the final product:

Spring is a comin'

Spring is a comin'... we can see the pollen (which has been washed away by the rain today, fortunately) and the warm(ish) weather is upon us.  The winter coats are going back into hiding and we are coming out of hiding.  On Sunday, we hit the trails at our local park. It was wonderful, and a little chilly in the shade. I wish I had taken a picture of their boots (and Little Man's pants) after we were done.  Muuuuuddddyyyyyy.

I can't wait until there is more warm, sunny days. And more hikes and enjoying nature. Yeah Spring!

Practicing for the big hunt

Easter is a few days away, but we are practicing our egg-finding skills! :) We had a wonderful lunch with Daddy's cousin and her family and friends. They had an egg hunt for the kids. Little Man was the oldest and seemed to pick up the idea pretty quickly. He got to the point where he couldn't fit more eggs in his basket without them falling out. Squeaker had a grand time adding a couple eggs and watching them fall to the ground as he tipped his basket over. We have a week to work with him so that he can give LM a run for his money.

Musings Monday

Some people do all their best thinking in the shower or in the bathroom, my Little Man does his in the car:

LM: What does "died" mean?
Me: (freaking out a little) Um, I guess it means that the person or thing is not alive any more?
LM: Alive?
Me: Well, when you are alive, your heart is beating and your brain is working, and your body is moving... When you aren't alive, everything stops. Um, do you think you can you ask me about this again in a couple years? Maybe I will be more prepared...
LM: Um, sure Mom, you are so clever.
Me: Thanks, buddy. You are too!

Snow, who needs snow?

Well, winter is coming to a close and with no hope for a big snow this year, the boys are making the best of it. Little Man's friend came over to play and they were all trying their hardest to get the sled up the hill, in the grass, with no snow! Hmmm... keep trying boys!!! :)

Tight Spaces

Seriously, this kid is nuts. He is a climber through and through and just gets himself into these predicaments!

Musings Monday

I think I am going to start up a regular segment -- Musings Monday. I don't post enough musings by Little Man (or so I have been told), so this will force me to do it on a weekly basis.

*************************

Today on the way to the doctor (yes, again) the boys were being wild and loud in the car -- luckily they were strapped in or we would have had a madhouse on our hands.

Me (to LM): Instead of yelling, why don't you teach Squeaker some calm sounds to make while Mommy is driving.
LM: (quiet)
LM: Sometimes my silly comes out automatically. Usually it's silly and wild, then comes calm. Silly, wild, rough, then calm comes after a while.
Me: Ah, so that is what it is. Okay, that explains a lot!

(so wise!!!)

Doctor visits

I feel like we are a regular show at our pediatrician's office. And, I do mean show. It is so very fun hauling the two boys plus all their diversions around, only to find that they would rather spin around on the doctor's chair (and subsequently fall off), play with the paper liner on the patient table, or climb up on the chairs to reach the tissues and see how many you can remove before Mommy realizes what you are doing. Fun times, I tell ya. Anywho, yes, we were back at the doctor today. They boys both had nasty coughs and wheezing going on so I thought I would make sure I was drugging them appropriately. And, no, I wasn't... more, they need more!!! and, apparently, inhalers don't cure ear infections -- what's that you say, ear infection... oh yes, this makes #6 for Squeaker since his birthday. Poor kid. And, we still have 1 month left until his surgery... how can this be??? I guess my New Year's resolution is now just a dream and a hope for next year.

So, now begins the countdown. April 8th is our surgery date... that leaves 32 days to go. I hope we make it.

HELP

Someone buy our house.... PLEASE!!!!! Before we all do something drastic! Thanks so much.

PJ Day

Did you know it was Dr. Seuss' Birthday on March 2nd? Well, it was, and in honor of it, Little Man went to school in his pjs -- it was Pajama Day and for snack... pancakes! And, instead of going out on the playground, they read books by Dr. Seuss. Apparently it was SOOOO Awesome and SOOOO Silly! I want a pajama day, too!!!

Contagious

Apparently, at our house, ear infections are contagious. Also, so is coughing until you vomit. And, I am pretty sure that not sleeping is also contagious. Stay away from here... I promise you won't regret it!
